For the 8th consecutive year in 2026, Taiwan topped the Numbeo Health Care Index, the world's largest user-contributed survey on healthcare quality, with a score of 87.1 out of 100, outperforming South Korea (82.9), the Netherlands (81.5), Japan (80.1), and Austria (78.9).

The engine behind this consistency is Taiwan's National Health Insurance (NHI) system. Launched in 1995, the NHI now covers nearly 100% of citizens and has achieved a 92% public satisfaction rate in 2025. The data-integrated, digitally efficient, affordable healthcare system is a combination that has drawn policymakers from dozens of countries to Taiwan to study how it was built.
